Extras flock to "Lone Ranger" Casting Call

Excerpts from The Mineral County Miner
March 29, 2012. About 300 men responded to the open casting call in Alamosa for extras in the new "Lone Ranger" movie. The "Lone Ranger" first surfaced in 1933 as a radio show. In 1949 it moved to television (black and white, of course) and ran for eight years. The Lone Ranger and Tonto were also portrayed in comic books and movies.

chs3457-cs-3Creede Historical Society presents... ' From the photo files'

February 16, 2012. This photo taken on June 1, 1893 was entitled “Almost Persuaded.” The three men in the photo from left to right are Unidentified (but probably Mr. Elmer Lightner, who was in business with the other two men), Dr. “Orph” Todd on the burro, and C.C. Hord.  Mr. Hord and Mr. Lightner owned a mercantile business in Creede and Dr. Ford was a silent partner. The first store burned down in the June 2 fire in 1892. It was rebuilt with bricks (the names of the men can still be seen painted on the side of what is now the Old Firehouse Restaurant). Later the business was moved into the Collins Building, which was located where the current Post Office and telephone office are today. Mr. Hord moved from Creede in 1914. Charles Stone Collection, Creede Historical Society Archives, Catalog #3457-CS-3.

The Creede Historical Society has thousands of photos in its photo files. Unfortunately, most are not identified in any way. Often we do not know the people, the locations in the pictures, the photographer, or the date that the photo was taken. We need your help! If you can identify anything in this week’s photo, please call or write: Jan Jacobs, Creede Historical Society, P.O. Box 608, Creede, CO 81130. Telephone: 719-658-2394.
